Freshers 08

Welcome to Warwick Pride! If you're starting University at Warwick in October, or perhaps are just now thinking of/interested in joining the society, then please read this page. It contains loads of information about what we've got in store for you over the first few weeks of term.

If you're new to the society you can learn a little more about the society here as well as the people who run it. We have a lot of other information on the website about the services and events we offer so take a look around, and see what we have for you.

Don't forget to join the society when you can in October - click here to go to our page on the Students' Union website, where you can join online for just £2.50 to get full member status.

When you've joined the society it's great to get stuck into what we do, and to be sure we welcome new members in style here's what we've got lined up for you for the first few weeks:

Freshers' Fair, Monday & Tuesday Week 2
Come and see us at the Freshers' Fair on Monday and Tuesday of Week 2. You'll be able to pick up a copy of our awesome new Pride Guide, along with a load of free goodies (and sweets!) and you'll be able to join the society on the day. We'll have loads of information available on just about everything from sexual health to employment rights and civil partnerships, so there's bound to be something you'll find useful. You'll also be able to sign up for our parenting scheme if you want to, and members of the Exec will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Welcome Buffet, Saturday Week 2
Our annual welcome buffet will be bigger and better this year than ever before! The event will be held on Saturday of Week 2 at 7pm, and will consist of a free buffet and an introduction to our Exec members. Afterwards, you can either go down to the Union's 'Skool Dayz' event or come with us to Rainbows - a gay bar/club in Coventry and regular Pride haunt. Exec members will be waiting at the campus bus stop at 9.30pm and 10.00pm to take you to Rainbows, which is open until 3am and offers the perfect opportunity to either dance the night away or just sit and chat. Keep an eye on the calendar on this website for further details nearer the time.

Coming Out Workshop, Saturday Week 2
We'll be running a Coming Out Workshop on Saturday of Week 2 (11th October) in Meeting Room 6 at 2-5pm. Our Coming Out Workshops are informal sessions where you can come and discuss the issue of coming out with members of the Exec, and hear some of our personal stories. We can also provide a wide range of information about where you can go for further help.
This will be a special workshop because not only is it National Coming Out Day, we will also be launching our brand new Coming Out Guide – the first time we’ve ever collated all our coming out info and sent it to print!

Coffee socials, every week
We run two socials every week - on Mondays from 4pm-6pm and Wednesdays from 12pm-2pm. These are informal socials where you can chat with other members over a cup of coffee and a bite to eat - the ideal way to wind down between lectures. Try it and see!

Clubbing socials
We'll be going to Rainbows, Coventry’s only gay bar, on a regular basis. Thursdays are student nights at Rainbows, featuring £1 entry (with a valid student card) and special prices on drinks. Saturday nights are slightly more expensive but feature different music and a different crowd of people - so why not try both and see which you prefer? Exec members will be waiting at the campus bus stop to accompany you to Rainbows. Further details will be posted on our calendar nearer the time.
Plus a couple of times a term we head to Birmingham for a change of scene, where we go to either DV8 or the Nightingale (‘Gales). These night’s still work out to be quite cheap with a one off entry fee for DV8 and a free bar, or cheap entry to Gale’s and £1 drinks on Thursday (just like a Big Gay Top Banana!)

That's it for the moment - keep an eye on the calendar for further details. Make sure to come and see us at Fresher's Fair on Thursday Week 1 to pick up your copy of this year's Pride Guide (along with some other free goodies...). Also, make sure you join the society so that you'll receive our weekly email containing everything you need to know about what's going on! If you need any further information, don't hesitate to contact us.
